More info needed on sea trout
Research firm Fiskaaling has started work on a project to determine the health standards of the Faroese sea trout stock.
As part of the project, the firm is now encouraging amateur anglers across the country to submit information about sea trout.
“We have made special envelopes for anglers to send us information about the sea trout they catch,” says project leader Kirstin Eliasen.
Valuable information in skin samples
The researchers are particularly interested in hearing about the length of the trout, and they also ask for samples of the trout’s skin.
“The skin, or scale, can be ‘read’ in the same way as ear stones in fish or tree rings, so this information is of great value to our research,” says Eliasen.
As this is a long-term project, there is no submission deadline. Fiskaaling will conduct an annual draw in which the winning contribution will be awarded a tax-free DKK 10,000 prize. Participating anglers will be informed of the skin-reading results.
