Party leader weighs in on “psycho” dispute

MP Annita á Fríðriksmørk’s “selfish psychopath” remark about Parliament Speaker Páll á Reynatúgvu at Saturday’s Tjóðveldi party conference is not a political matter.

So said Republican Party Tjóveldi’s party leader, Høgni Hoydal, after yesterday’s internal party meeting in the wake of the unfortunate remark.

During an intermission at the conference, Fríðriksmørk, who heads the party’s parliamentary group, was heard referring to her party colleague, Parliament Speaker Páll á Reynatúgvu, as “a big egotist and a psychopath”.

Apology accepted
Soon after the remark started circulating, Fríðriksmørk issued a public, unconditional apology to Reynatúgvu, who yesterday wrote on his Facebook profile:

“I have worked with Annita [á Fríðriksmørk] for many years and, naturally, as a human being I accept her apology. 

“But this is not about me and Annita; it is a matter for the head of the parliamentary group and the party leadership. Where does the party leadership draw the line?”
 

A personal matter
Party leader Høgni Hoydal, who has been tight-lipped on the issue, finally spoke out after yesterday’s internal party meeting. 

“I was hoping I wouldn’t have to comment on this issue, but it has now ended up in the public domain. This is an incredibly unfortunate matter for everyone involved. But the party is treating this a personal matter, not a political one.”

He added that he is confident that Fríðriksmørk and Reynatúgvu will patch things up between them, so the party can return its focus on its political agenda as soon as possible.
