Faroese voters can elect two Faroese members of the Danish Parliament

04.06.2019 - 10:21

A general election will be held in Denmark tomorrow. All 179 members of the Danish Parliament (The Folketing) will be elected – 175 in Denmark, two in the Faroe Islands and two in Greenland.

All Faroese Parliamentary parties can contest the election, but Miðflokkurin (The Centre Party) has decided to opt out this time.

Tjóðveldi (Republicans) and Javnaðarflokkurin (Social Democrats) currently hold the two Faroese seats in the Danish Parliament, represented by Magni Arge and Sjúrður Skaale, respectively.

The other parties standing for the Danish general election are Sambandsflokkurin (The Union Party), Fólkaflokkurin (The People’s Party), Framsókn (The Progress Party) and Sjálvstýri (The Self-Government Party).

Voting eligibility

To be eligible to vote in the Faroese and the Danish general elections, a foreign national must have taken Danish citizenship, be aged 18 or over and must be listed in the electoral register of the municipality where he or she is registered.

All eligible voters receive a polling card in the post from their local council.

If you are an eligible voter and have not received your polling card, contact your local council.
