The Faroese U20 team have made it into the semi-finals of the EHF Championship preliminary round after a convincing 29-22 win over Belarus yesterday.

The Faroese players will now meet host nation Macedonia in tomorrow’s semi-final.

Although Macedonia won group B in the preliminary round and is considered a tough opponent, Faroese assistant coach Hjalmar Klein Olsen has singled out the host nation as the ideal opponent in the semi-final.

The other semi-final will feature Belarus and Switzerland.

Yesterday’s star player on the Faroese team was Vilhelm Poulsen, with no less than 10 goals to his name. Høgni Zachariassen scored six goals and Brandur Halgirsson four.

Niklas Hanusarson and Tróndur Wardum scored three each, while Hallur Arason, Leivur Mortensen and Djóni Petersen scored one each.
