Eiði population hits all-time high
The town of Eiði in Eysturoy currently has the largest population it has ever had
Eiði, Eysturoy

14.08.2018 - 14:35

Eiði Municipality now has 726 citizens, which is the highest number in the town’s history.

Before the financial crisis in the ‘90s, the population stood at 721, decreasing to 635 after the crisis.

In 2003, the population figure returned to the same level as before the crisis. This was followed by another decline, reaching a low point of 666 in 2012.

There has been a steady increase since then. The current figure of 726 is 14 more than the figure from 1 June, which is the most recent one from Statistics Faroe Islands.

Mayor Jógvan í Skorini says that the Town Council is planning to further expand its housing supply to meet the high demand.
