Population decline in seven municipalities
Despite a general population increase in the country, some areas are seeing a decline
Fámjin, Suðuroy, had a population drop of five people in the past year.

Seven municipalities saw a decrease in their population in the period from 1 July 2017 to 1 July 2018.
Three of these are in Suðuroy: Hvalba and Tvøroyri had a population drop of 17 each, while Fámjin saw a decline of five in the past year.
In Sandoy, Húsavík’s population decreased by ten and Skálavík by four.
This leaves a combined population decline in Suðuroy and Sandoy of 54 in the past year.
The other two municipalities are Fugloy, with a decline of three people, and Kvívík, whose population dropped by one.
