Faroese salmon “a good sustainable alternative”

Seafood Watch, a leading American sustainable seafood advisory list, has rated Faroese farmed salmon “a good alternative”.

The watchdog is a non-profit organisation which works with consumers, chefs and business professionals to inform them of their seafood purchasing decisions.

It has three ratings:

Best Choice: Buy first. It’s well managed and caught or farmed in ways that cause little harm to habitats or other wildlife.

Good Alternative: Buy, but be aware there are concerns with how it’s caught or farmed.

Avoid: Don’t buy, it’s overfished or caught or farmed in ways that harm other marine life or the environment.
