Dodgy monks on police radar
Police are investigating an incident in which two foreign nationals dressed as monks tricked people in the streets to give them money

19.12.2018 - 13:57

Two men, wearing brown monk outfits, were aggressively trying to sell items and collect charity donations from passers-by in the streets of Tórshavn on Sunday.

The men had even brought with them a credit card machine in case people were short of cash.

It later emerged that the charitable members of the public had unwittingly paid in Euros – which is seven times as much as the Danish Krone.

The police say they are currently looking for the suspects, who did not have a street-selling permit nor a charity permit, but it is unlikely that they are still in the country.
