Discrimination in the workplace will soon be a thing of the past.

Heðin Mortensen, the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Labour, has submitted a bill which seeks to ensure equality of treatment and ban workplace discrimination.

The bill aims to ban discrimination based on race, skin colour, religious beliefs, political views, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability or national, social or ethnological origin.

The ban on workplace discrimination will apply to recruitment, changes to a job, dismissal, and salary and work terms in general.

It will only apply to the job market and is not a public law on discrimination.

According to the industry minister, the law will come into force on 1 January 2020.
