Poll: People’s Party retains lead

Fólkaflokkurin (the People’s Party) came out as the big winner of a new opinion poll.
The People’s Party secured more than 27% of the votes, which, although slightly less than in the previous two opinion polls, means it is still by far the biggest political party in the Faroes.
Javnaðarflokkurin (Social Democratic Party) had a 0.6-percent increase on the previous poll, while Tjóðveldi (Republican Party) saw a slight decline.
The new poll gives the People’s Party nine seats, the Republican Party seven, and the Social Democrats and Sambandsflokkurin (the Union Party) six.
This means that the government parties lose their majority, with only 15 seats against 18 for the opposition parties.
Sjálvstýri (Self-Governing Party) improved its standing, securing one seat in Parliament.
Framsókn (Progress Party) and Miðflokkurin (Central Party) retain their two seats each.
Five hundred people took part in the poll, which was carried out on Friday by news portal portal.fo.
