No final Dalur tunnel approval this month
The plan to build a tunnel from Húsavík to Dalur, Sandoy, needs a final seal of approval from Yvirfriðingarráðið (the National Trust).
It has now emerged that the Dalur tunnel plan is not on the agenda for the next National Trust meeting, scheduled for the end of this month.

According to National Trust chairman Henrik Møller, the agenda for the next meeting had already been agreed when the committee received the plan for the Dalur tunnel project.
He adds that National Trust committee members are planning an inspection of the ground in Húsavík and Dalur soon.
Approval from local conservancy board
As the National Trust usually meets at the end of each month, it will take at least one month before the committee starts processing the tunnel project.
The nature conservancy board in Sandoy has already approved the project, and now all that remains is a green light from the National Trust.
The Húsavík-Dalur tunnel will be 2.2 kilometres long and is estimated to cost DKK 75-80 million. Some 300 metres of new road will be added, and the existing road will be altered. The project is expected to take four years to complete.
