Bottle recycling to be made easier

Bottle recycling to be made easier
The Association of Traders has presented a bill which aims to centralise all bottle recycling services

16.02.2019 - 16:06

A new proposal seeks to establish a new system for recycling empty bottles, so that consumers won’t need to visit several recycling stations to redeem their bottles for cash.

Health minister Sirið Stenberg, who also oversees environmental matters, will now look into the proposal and decide whether or when the new system should be introduced.

Good for consumers and the environment

The proposal, presented by the Association of Traders, seeks not only to make it easier for consumers to recycle empty bottles, but also to protect the environment, as the sales of disposable cans are on a steep rise.

The Ministry of Health and the Interior is planning to appoint a committee which will prepare recommendations for the minister.
