Shorter MR scan waiting times

Shorter MR scan waiting times
The National Hospital’s MR scanner is now being used every weekday, as opposed to only two days a week last year

A year ago, the waiting time for an MR scan at the National Hospital in Tórshavn could be as long as three months. It has now been reduced to four to six weeks.

This was the key point in health minister Sirið Stenberg’s reply to an enquiry from MP Kaj Leo Holm Johannesen.

CT scanner coming soon

The MR scanner can now be used every weekday, partly because many regular x-ray tests are being carried out in the hospitals in Tvøroyri and Klaksvík, the minister added.

The 2019 budget includes funding for a new CT scanner, which will be installed at Suðuroyar Hospital shortly.

Once it is ready, a new telemedicinal collaboration will be set up in which images are transferred between the National Hospital and Suðuroyar Hospital.
