Small schools may merge with larger one
Tórshavn City Council’s culture committee has started a consultation process about merging the small schools in the municipality with a larger one.
The small schools, in Velbastað, Nólsoy and Kaldbak, will continue as usual, teaching pupils in the first to the seventh form. The school in Nólsoy also offers prep school facilities.
A precondition for merging the schools is that the education ministry approves an extra grant for the big school to accommodate the smaller school units.
Consultation
A series of consultation meetings will be held over the next weeks to inform staff, school managements, parents and locals of the plan.
Meanwhile, a working group with representatives from all schools involved will be formulating a recommendation on the planned merger.
This recommendation will then be processed by the City Council. If the City Council approves the plan, an approval application will be sent to the Ministry of Culture.
