New alliance to combat hacking

A new collaboration has been set up to ensure that the public is informed as soon as possible when Faroese computers and IT systems are attacked by hackers.
The new alliance consists of Gjaldstovan (the Department of Accounting and Financial Administration), telecommunication firm Føroya Tele and the police.
Together, the three institutions aim to pool their strengths in the fight against the enduring problem of computer hacking.
Better together
Gjaldstovan administers IT security in large parts of the country’s public IT infrastructure, Føroya Tele oversees significant parts of all incoming communication, while the police watch out for illegal matters in general.
This new partnership aims to help Faroese institutions, businesses and private users defend themselves against hacker attacks through information campaigns and a variety of technical solutions.
The Ministry of Finance is currently working on an IT security circular, which will place greater IT security demands on public institutions.
