Health ministry demands improved financial control
The National Hospital has received a letter from the health ministry, which demands better financial control, following repeated requests for additional grants last year.
This comes after the ministry was told in January this year that the National Hospital was on budget for 2018.
One month later, however, the ministry was informed that the National Hospital had significantly overspent its 2018 budget.
“Unacceptable”
Comments in the proposal for an extra appropriation for 2019 say it is “unacceptable” that the government receives this information as late as in February 2019.
The real National Hospital figures did not emerge until the results of an independent audit were published.
The audit, yet to be completed, according to health minister Sirið Stenberg, also contains a set of recommendations on how the National Hospital management can ensure that it does not overspend the budget again this year.
