New deposit system for plastic bottles

The current deposit system for disposable plastic drinks containers does not cover all types of bottles or cans.

In her reply to MP Jenis av Rana’s enquiry about plastic pollution, interior minister Sirið Stenberg says this will soon change.

New regulations have been formulated, and a working group is currently being set up to administer the new rules.

According to the minister, the new deposit system will make it easier to dispose of the bottles and cans, and it will ensure that as many single-use containers as possible will be recycled.
