Less than a third of election candidates are women
Efforts to increase the number female parliamentary candidates are not going according to plan

So far, fewer women are running for Parliament for the upcoming general election than at the last election in 2015.

However, in relative terms, more women feature on the registration list for the 2019 election than in 2015.

In 2015, 48 of the 169 candidates were women, which amounts to 28.4 percent. So far this year, 45 of 155 candidates are women, which is 29 percent.

”The reason is that the political parties do not put sufficient effort into encouraging women to stand for Parliament,” says Marna K. Jacobsen, chairwoman of Demokratia, an organisation working to increase female representation in the political system.

The 2019 general election will take place on 31 August.
