‘Norður um Fjall’ tunnels given first priority

Planning work on the ‘Norður um Fjall’ tunnels (Klaksvík-Árnafjørður and Árnafjørður-Norðtoftir) will be completed in a few months.

So says finance minister Jørgen Niclasen in his reply to MP Beinta Løwe, who enquired about the progress of the tunnel plans.

Ahead of plan

Parliament approved a DKK 21 million additional appropriation this autumn earmarked for expediting the Hvalba tunnel project, for which the drilling work is expected to be completed sometime next year.

This means that work can start on the ‘Norður um Fjall’ tunnels ahead of schedule.

It is, however, too early to give an exact completion date, says the minister. The completion date depends on prioritisations in the long-term investment framework.
