Faroese people have never had mandatory military service, and that’s not going to change, says the Prime Minister

A Danish political party suggesting mandatory military service across the Danish does not make conscription for Faroese citizens a reality. Far from it. Faroese people never have and never will undergo mandatory military service.

So said Prime Minister in Parliament yesterday in his reply to an enquiry from Høgni Hoydal, the leader of Tjóðveldi (the Republican Party).

Hoydal’s enquiry comes in the wake of DF, The Danish People’s Party, proposing that Faroese and Greenlandic citizens should undergo compulsory military service on an equal footing with Danish citizens.

The Prime Minister added that the government is actively seeking a more active and independent role in foreign policy decision making.
