Foreign trade at an all-time high

The national economy appears to be going from strength to strength, and we are selling and buying more than ever before.
Last year’s total export sales figures hit an all-time high of DKK 9.5 billion, which is a 19-percent increase on 2018.
Salmon exports reached a record high last year, growing by 21 percent from DKK 3.3 billion in 2018 to DKK 4 billion.
Cod exports grew by almost DKK 300m to exceed DKK 1bn for the first time since 2002. And mackerel and herring export sales also rose significantly, by 43 and 54 percent, respectively.
Increase in sales and volume
Last year’s record figures reflect not only sales but volume too.
Some 69,000 tonnes of salmon were exported last year, which is 2,000 tonnes more than the previous best year in 2014.
The herring export volume also reached an all-time high, at 122,000 tonnes.
Increasing imports
Last year saw the import figure topping DKK 8bn for the first time, increasing by DKK 400m on the previous year.
While imports of machinery, equipment and fuel went down last year, there was an increase in all other commodity groups.
