Mykines ferry ticket price reduced

A one-way ticket to the popular tourist hotspot of Mykines now costs DKK 60.
In January, public transport company Strandfaraskip landsins (SSL) increased the price of a one-way ticket DKK 60 to DKK 100, arguing that the number of visitors to Mykines has increased five-fold in recent years, and that the price hike is a necessary means of curbing the flow of visitors to the island.
Unpopular decision
This caused a stir at the time, with tour operators slamming SSL for introducing the price hike at such a short notice.
This criticism has intensified in recent weeks as it became increasingly likely that few or no foreign tourists will visit the country this summer.
Responding to this, finance and transport minister Jørgen Niclasen yesterday instructed public transport service SSL to change the ticket price back to its original DKK 60 level.
The Sørvágur-Mykines summer ferry schedule starts tomorrow.
