After consulting with city-centre retailers, Tórshavn City Council has decided against setting up its skating rink in Vágsbotnur.
Retailers said the traffic disruptions caused by moving the rink would severely restrict customer access to stores in the city centre.
“If retailers don’t want the ice rink in Vágsbotnur, we will reconsider our plans," Bogi Jacobsen, the City Council’s technical manager, said last night.
And today, mayor Annika Olsen confirmed that a new location will be found for the skating rink.
The decision to move the rink from its usual location outside the city hall to Vágsbotnur was part of a new urban development plan.
