New online banking system delayed

Online banking customers will need to wait a few months before they can sign in through the new personal identification system (Samleikin).

Samleikin was officially launched in October, and the plan was to incorporate online banking services into the new system early this year.

The delay is predominantly due to legal complications, according to Árni Ellefsen, chairman of the Faroese association of financial institutions.

The Danish NemID login system will be phased out during this year, but Ellefsen says the new online banking system will most likely be ready before NemID is deactivated.
