The Faroes had 27,300 employees in April 2021, almost 2,000 more than in April 2020, which was the first full month after the Covid-19 outbreak.

Statistics Faroe Islands reports that the difference in the number of male and female employees, which has been increasing in recent years, is now shrinking again.

In April this year, there were about 13,900 male and 13,350 female employees.

The ‘private services’ sector now boasts 8,700 employees, which is 1,200 more than in April 2020.

With 4,200 employees, the figure for the ‘construction and other manufacturing’ sector is now declining after a period of steady increase since 2014, while the ‘fishery and other natural resources’ sector saw a year-on-year increase of 300 employees, up to 4,100.
