The Faroes last night won their home game against Moldova with a final score of 2-1.

“We were not strong enough in the first half, but we controlled the second half and our victory was well-deserved,” said coach Håkan Ericson after the match.

Prior to the game, the Faroes and Moldova were joint bottom of the table with one point each.

The Group F table now looks as follows: Denmark tops the table 18 points, followed by Scotland (11), Israel (10), Austria (7), the Faroe Islands (4) and Moldova (1).

A good week for Faroese football

Last night’s win comes on the back of two other impressive results.

On Saturday, the national team came close to securing a 0-0 draw against group leaders Denmark, but the Danes scored their winning goal with five minutes left to play.

And the Faroese Under-19 national team caused something of a sensation when they drew 1-1 with France on Monday.

All these three games were home games, played at Tórshavn’s Tórsvøllur stadium.
