Parking charges planned for Tórshavn

Tórshavn City Council yesterday unanimously voted to apply for a second time to the government for permission to introduce car parking charges in the city.

The council also agreed to earmark DKK 500,000 for the planning of an underground parking tunnel under the city centre.

The amount, which comes on top of the DKK 4 million earmarked for planning work on the project in this year’s council budget, will be spent on creating a sketch project, cost assessment and a general needs assessment.

According to the original tunnel proposal, approved in May 2019, the tunnel will be about a kilometre in length and will have space for 700 cars.
