Multi-storey car park “will disturb neighbourhood”
Should the city centre be a place where children can thrive or a place for busy traffic?
This is the question that families living near the planned multi-storey car park in Tórshavn are asking the City Council.
In a letter to the council, they write that an increasing number of young families have moved to the city centre in recent years and have created a vibrant family community in the area.

But this positive trend has now come under threat, the families argue.
"There is a great deal of traffic in our city centre as it is, and a big multi-storey car park will greatly increase the traffic,” the letter to the council reads.
“This will have a negative effect on our community – not least our children.”

The residents also criticise a lack of communication from the city council and call for feasibility studies to assess how the new building will affect the surrounding area.
The letter concludes by inviting the city council to a consultation meeting to discuss how the negative effects of the project can be minimised.
