German classes for all seventh formers
German should be a compulsory language in fólkaskúlin's Year 7, and upper secondary school pupils studying science and economics should learn a foreign language other than Danish and English.
These are two of the key conclusions in a report by a working group tasked with devising a set of recommendations aimed at strengthening foreign language proficiency in Faroese schools.
The report covers the following areas: distribution of subjects and teaching hours, curricula, teaching materials, teacher competences and general teaching & research.
It also recommends that foreign-language research positions are introduced at the University of the Faroe Islands.
