Vaccine protects against Omicron
Two shots cut the risk of infection in half, new research suggests

The Pfizer/BionTech vaccine provides fairly good protection against Omicron infection.

This is the conclusion of an analysis of Covid cases registered in the Faroes this month.

According to the analysis, two shots cut the risk of Omicron infection in half, and a third booster shot further reduces the risk.

For every two triple-vaccinated people who get infected, five unvaccinated people get infected, the figures reveal.

Better protection for 50+ age group

Another conclusion is that the vaccine offers better protection for those aged 50 or above than for those aged below 50.

It should be noted here that more people in the 50+ age group have received a booster shot than the younger age groups.

The results from the Faroese analysis correspond with findings from similar analyses in Denmark, says chief medical officer Lars Fodgaard Møller.
