Expert: up to 90% will get Covid
More than half the Faroese population have or have had Covid.
Professor Pál Weihe believes the current number of about 27,000 people who have or have had Covid is likely to go up significantly before we reach any kind of herd immunity through previous infection.
“The daily figures will probably not go down much until about 60-70 percent of the population have been infected,” he says.
“My personal estimate is that we will be seeing high daily figures throughout February, and ultimately nine out of ten people will be infected.”

Weihe reckons that the real number of infected people is significantly higher than the reported figure due to the high number of asymptomatic cases.
“The vaccine can probably no longer be regarded as providing effective protection against Omicron infection; however, there is no doubt that the vaccine is highly effective when it comes to preventing severe illness.”
According to the latest figures on corona.fo, from yesterday, five people are receiving hospital treatment for Covid-19. Twenty-two Covid-related fatalities have been registered since the start of the pandemic.
