5G ready at turn of the year

Føroya Tele began its transition from 4G to 5G in August last year with the aim of completing the project by the end of this year.
“We have had some problems caused by the global chip shortage, but we have so far managed to work around these problems,” says Símun Skaalum, managing director of Føroya Tele’s communication division FT Samskifti.

“We are still on schedule to complete our transition to 5G at the turn of the year. We may, however, see some delays if the chip shortage worsens.”
The new technology, developed in partnership with Swedish telecoms firm Ericsson, will offer significantly greater bandwidth and higher speeds.
NEMA, the other major telecoms company in the Faroes, is preparing its own separate 5G network.
