Difficult driving conditions

Road authority Landsverk has been kept busy today towing cars stuck in heavy snow.

An hour ago, Landsverk reported that the roads to Sandavágur (from the subsea tunnel), Gjógv and Oyndarfjørður had been temporarily closed.

Other roads were closed earlier today, but they have since reopened.

Driving conditions on the road to Vestmanna are also said to be poor, but the road remained open as of 3pm. “In general, driving conditions are poor in the central, northern and western regions,” said a Lansverk spokesperson.

“It’s still snowing, so we cannot make any predictions right now. We are using all our snowploughs, and we are doing what we can to clear the roads.”
