Energy and the environment will play a significantly greater role in the government’s work next year, according to Prime Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen.

“Energy and the environment are the most pressing issues for the government in the new year, and it is high time that we start working towards a sustainable policy in this area,” he says.

“To get the most out of our ever-increasing food export industry, it is crucial that we lead the way in terms of environmental awareness.”

Sustainable tourism

Another pressing issue for the government in 2020 is the booming tourism industry.

“We will be working hard this year to find sustainable solutions for our tourism industry to ensure that its continued growth does not damage our nature, our culture and our people.”
