Only two weeks after Robert Plant was announced as this year’s G! Festival’s headlining act, the legendary singer has cancelled.

He was due to play together with his new band, Saving Grace, but the band’s management says they decided to cancel due to pressure from UK anti-whaling groups.

This is the second consecutive year that a G! headliner cancels due to pressure from anti-whaling groups. Last year it was Scottish pop sensation Lewis Capaldi.

“This is a huge blow for us,” says a despondent G! CEO Sigvør Laksá.

“This kind of repeated adversity makes you want to just pack up and go do something other than organising a music festival.”

She adds that as most of the anti-whaling campaigning is coming from the UK, the festival organisers are considering using other methods and targeting other countries when booking musicians for the festival.
