SAS suspends Faroe flights
Reduced passenger demand and Covid testing fees have prompted the Scandinavian airline to temporarily suspend flights between Denmark and the Faroes

SAS has announced its temporary suspension of flights between Denmark and the Faroes starting on 1 October.

The reason is a significant reduction in passenger numbers due to the Covid pandemic, and that the Faroese government wants passengers to pay for the mandatory Covid tests at the airport from 1 October.

”We regard Covid-19 testing as an administrative task for which we as an airline should not be forced to charge our passengers,” says Sille Beck Hansen, interim communications manager at SAS.

She adds that the airline was given very short notice about this additional charge, which now needs to be added on top of the ticket price paid by all the passengers who have already booked flights with SAS on the Faroe route.

“This, along with the reduced passenger numbers caused by the pandemic, has led to our decision to temporarily suspend our flights between Denmark and the Faroe Islands,” she says.

“We will reassess our stance on this once the conditions become more economically viable for us.”
