Faroese reading habits revealed in new poll
More than a third of poll respondents say they read less than once a week

A typical person in the Faroes prefers to read crime fiction in bed for 30 minutes at a time.

This is a generalised conclusion of a new poll on Faroese reading habits.

Most of the 500 respondents, all aged 18 or over, said they prefer to read in Faroese. Danish came in at a distant second and English was third.

Crime fiction was the most popular type of literature, followed by general fiction and non-fiction.

Some 38 percent reported reading less than once a week.

The bed appears to be the most popular place for reading, followed by the sofa and the toilet.

The poll was commissioned by ‘Føroyar lesa’, a public initiative to promote reading, in connection with tomorrow’s annual Faroese language day.
