All the people who have tested positive in the past week are linked to the same chain of infection.

This is a strong indication that th new wave of infection has been contained, according to Prime Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen.

“Changing the existing restrictions would cause an unnecessary degree of confusion at this point,” he says.

With a string of recent and upcoming events involving large crowds, he says it is crucial that we all do our best to stick to our own social bubble and keep a safe distance at all times.

“People appear to respect the safety recommendations, so we believe there is no need for further restrictions at this point,” he adds.

“The government is keeping a close eye on the situation. Should the situation worsen, we will consider further restrictions.”

The daily numbers of positive tests over the past week have been as follows: 16, 2, 3, 4, 6, 5 and 6. No-one is receiving hospital treatment for Covid-19, and 503 people are listed as being in quarantine.
