Border testing to end 1 September

On 4 July, it was announced that mandatory Covid testing of all arrivals from abroad would cease on 1 August.
Then on 22 July, amid a sudden spike in new Covid cases, border testing was extended to August 31.
But today, the epidemic commission announced that this testing will cease this coming Wednesday, 1 September.

“We are seeing a low infection rate and good vaccination progress, so we believe it is safe to stop the mandatory testing,” says police chief and epidemic committee chairman Michael Boolsen.
“I want to point out that the Faroes have not yet reached herd immunity, and I urge everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible.”
Today’s epidemic commission meeting resulted in a set of new recommendations to the government on how to limit the infection risk after 1 September.
