Nine refugees from Ukraine arrived in the Faroes yesterday.

Seven went to Tvøroyri, Suðuroy, and two went to stay with acquaintances in Tórshavn.

Those arriving in Tvøroyri are being attended to by locals who do everything they can to make sure their needs are being met.

“We first made sure we provided them with all the essentials – housing, food, clothes, etc.,” Mortan Vang, who together with MP Johan Dahl initiated Tvøroyri’s refugee efforts, said yesterday.

“And we are now showing them around our town. The children want to play football and others want to see the church. The integration has already begun.”

Watch an interview with Liudmyla Fedorchenko and her daughter Sofiia from Kharkiv here (the first four minutes of the clip.)

In the second half of the clip, the integration minister gives an update on the national response plan for refugees. A summary in English is coming up soon.
