About 25 percent of the Faroese public would like the Faroes to join the European Union.

Just under 50 percent are against EU membership, while the remaining 25 percent are undecided.

These are some of the key conclusions of a survey on the public’s attitude towards foreign and security policy, the results of which were presented on 10 March.

Surprising results

More than half of the respondents said they wanted increased cooperation with the EU.

The researchers behind the survey say they are slightly surprised by these findings as the Faroese public has had a longstanding wish to maintain control of Faroese marine resources.

Another noteworthy result of the survey is that 80 percent of respondents said they would like closer ties with the UK.
