Cold in the west, warmer in the east
Vágar Airport had the lowest average temperature measured over the past 20 years

With an average temperature of 6 degrees Celsius, Vágar Airport has been the coldest place in the Faroes over the past 20 years, according to figures from Statistics Faroe Islands.

The warmest place was Kirkja, Fugloy, with an average of 6.9 degrees.

Tórshavn had an average of 6.5 degrees, Akraberg (the southernmost tip of Suðuroy) had 6.4 degrees and Mykines averaged at 6.1 degrees.

Akraberg had average wind speeds of 8.1 m/s, Mykines 7.8 m/s and Tórshavn 5.9 m/s. Wind data from the weather stations at Kirkja and Vágar Airport is not featured in Statistic Faroe Islands’ databank.

The airport tops the list of frost days, with an average 62 over the past 20 years, followed by 49 in Tórshavn, 46 in Mykines, 38 in Akraberg and 36 in Kirkja.

Tórshavn had an average temperature last year of 7 degrees, with a high of 17.1 degrees and a low of minus 6.1 degrees.
