Last month had an average temperature of 2 degrees.
“We need to go as far back as 1994 or 1995 to see equally low January averages,” says meteorologist Hanus Kjølbro.
“The coldest January since the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) started its weather observations in the Faroes in 1875 was in 1979. Last month was the third coldest January since 1979.”
He adds that the snow will most likely remain for a few days, possibly up to two weeks.
