Pilots demand improved working conditions
Inadequate working conditions, rather than wages, are the main issue in the ongoing dispute between pilots and employers

The Employers’ Association approved the draft settlement, but the pilots rejected it, said conciliator Símun Absalonsen.

On Thursday, he presented a new draft settlement to the Employers’ Association and Atlantic Airways’ pilots, who have been locked in contract negotiations for some time.

“The pilots are unhappy with their working conditions; the salary isn’t their main issue,” said Absalonsen.

The chairman of the Faroese Airline Pilot Association, Johan Vágadal, told KVF on 17 April that the pilots are calling for improved working conditions such as regulated time off.

The pilots also rejected the first draft settlement, which was presented to the parties on 16 April.

The opposing parties have two weeks to declare a work stoppage. However, Absalonsen added that it is unusual to announce a work stoppage while the Conciliation Board is still involved in the talks.

“We haven’t given up yet,” he said.
