House fire caused by unattended saucepan

A house in the Suðuroy village of Hov was severely damaged by a fire on Monday.

Police officers at the scene found that the fire was caused by a saucepan which had been left unattended on the stove by a man who was home alone in the house.

The man called the police on Monday afternoon after safely escaping the blaze.

By the time the fire was put out at 8pm, everything inside the house had been destroyed.
