City Council refuses to pay firefighting bill

Although Tvøroyri City Council requested assistance from shipyard Mest’s rescue boat ‘Samson’, the council refuses to foot the bill.

According to Mest’s lawyer, the ‘Samson’ crew spent 35 hours trying to put out the flames at Varðin Pelagic on 9 June last year, an operation for which Mest sent a DKK 205,000 bill to Tvøroyri City Council.

The City Council argues that the state should foot the bill, if possible together with Mest and Varðin Pelagic’s insurance company.

The council also says that as a large private company, Mest has a corporate social responsibility to provide practical and financial assistance to local and national authorities in these kinds of circumstances.
