Faroese people should qualify for dual citizenship
The Danish dual citizenship law should also apply in the Faroes, says the government
Although Faroese people are Danish citizens, they are not entitled to apply for dual citizenship

As members of the Danish Kingdom, Faroe islanders should be entitled to dual citizenship.

The Faroese government has received a number of enquiries on this matter and is now planning to bring the Danish dual citizenship law into force in the Faroes.

The dual membership law in the Faroes has not been amended since 2014. In Denmark, citizens have been entitled to apply for dual membership since 1 September 2015.

The Danish amendment means that citizens who apply for a second citizenship can still retain their Danish citizenship.
