Nordic population tops 27 million

The current population of the Nordic region is 27.06 million, according to Norden.org.

In the ten-year period between 2007 and 2017, Norway saw the greatest increase, while Greenland saw a population decline.

The Norwegian increase of 12.4 percent was mainly due to immigration, with a net immigration percentage of 8.4 in the 2007-2017 period.

Number two on the list is Iceland, which saw a 10-percent increase. An 8-percent excess of births was the main factor in Iceland’s population growth.

The order for the other Nordic countries is as follows: Sweden, Åland, Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands and Greenland.

Greenland saw a 1.4-percent population decline in the 2007-2017 period, mainly due to emigration. The net immigration figure was minus 7.5 percent.

The population of the Nordic countries is expected to grow to approximately 31 million by 2050, according to Norden.org.
