Earlier this year, a dementia patient’s family lodged a complaint against the decision by VEKS to move him to another nursing home.

VEKS, an elderly care association covering Vestmanna, Kvívík, Eiði and Sunda municipalities, has decided that the man must move out of the Runavík nursing home into the nursing home in Streymnes.

Although the man’s family worry that the move will have a detrimental effect on his health, VEKS has now announced that the move will take place.

The 80-year-old was born in Sunda Municipality, and VEKS argues that since Sunda Municipality no longer owns shares in the Runavík nursing home, the association should not continue to pay the DKK 699,000 annual costs of the man’s place at the Runavík home.

VEKS is keen to point out that the service at the Streymnes nursing home is good and that the environment is similar to that at the Runavík home.

Niels A. Joensen, the head of VEKS, declines to make further comments as this is a personal matter.
