Most extreme case of its kind in the Faroes

A 33-year-old man has been charged with possession of more than 135,000 pornographic images and 2,400 indecent video clips involving underaged persons.

He is also accused of distributing child pornography to others.

Linda Hesselberg, deputy chief of the Faroese police, says that the defendant has not produced any of the material himself.

It was the National Cyber Crime Centre in Denmark that reported the case to the Faroese police, which followed it up by raiding the man’s home, where his computer was taken in for evidence.

The indictment is currently being prepared, and the court will take up the case later this month.

“This is the most extreme and extensive case of its kind in the Faroe Islands,” Hesselberg told Sosialurin newspaper.
